In the digital age, the act of writing blogs has become a powerful tool for amplifying voices, fostering dialogue, and sharing knowledge. Blogs offer a platform where anyone can contribute their perspectives, experiences, and insights to a broader audience.1 < Example superscript footnote. You might also use parenthetical citations or hyperlink text to link out to a website. You can also use numbered brackets to indicate a footnote.

To add a superscript footnote, click the spot in the sentence where you want to add the footnote. From the hovering top-menu select the drop-down arrow next to the hyperlink button and select Footnote. This will create a linked footnote that will auto-scroll to the footnotes section when clicked.

One of the key aspects of writing blogs is their accessibility. Unlike traditional forms of publishing that may require significant resources or gatekeeping, blogs can be created and accessed by anyone with an internet connection.[2] This accessibility breaks down barriers to information and allows marginalized voices, often excluded from mainstream narratives, to be heard. Blogging empowers individuals to share their stories, challenge dominant narratives, and contribute to a more inclusive historical record.

Furthermore, blogs serve as a platform for fostering dialogue and engagement. Readers can interact with blog authors through comments, shares, and discussions, creating a dynamic exchange of ideas and perspectives. This interactive nature of blogs encourages critical thinking, as readers are prompted to question assumptions, consider alternative viewpoints, and engage in respectful debates. In this way, writing blogs contributes to a vibrant intellectual ecosystem where diverse voices are valued and respected.

Another important aspect of blogging is its role in preserving and sharing knowledge. Blogs can document personal experiences, oral histories, and community traditions that might otherwise be lost or forgotten. By capturing these stories in a digital format, blogs ensure that cultural heritage is preserved and accessible to future generations. Moreover, blogs can serve as educational resources, supplementing formal learning with multimedia-rich content that engages and inspires learners of all ages.

O Captain! My Captain! by Walt Whitman

O Captain! my Captain! our fearful trip is done,
The ship has weather’d every rack, the prize we sought is won,
The port is near, the bells I hear, the people all exulting,
While follow eyes the steady keel, the vessel grim and daring;
But O heart! heart! heart!
O the bleeding drops of red,
Where on the deck my Captain lies,
Fallen cold and dead.

O Captain! my Captain! rise up and hear the bells;
Rise up- for you the flag is flung- for you the bugle trills,
For you bouquets and ribbon’d wreaths- for you the shores a-crowding,
For you they call, the swaying mass, their eager faces turning;
Here Captain! dear father!
This arm beneath your head!
It is some dream that on the deck,
You’ve fallen cold and dead.

My Captain does not answer, his lips are pale and still,
My father does not feel my arm, he has no pulse nor will,
The ship is anchor’d safe and sound, its voyage closed and done,
From fearful trip the victor ship comes in with object won;
Exult O shores, and ring O bells!
But I with mournful tread,
Walk the deck my Captain lies,
Fallen cold and dead.

^ “Spacer” block (you can’t see it, but it’s there!) adds space on the page

[Below: Columns Block — divides content on page into columns]

Column 1

Use “Columns” to put content side-by-side; gives you a little more control over how text/media appears together on the page. In a column, you can add any type of content block.

This is a caption.

Column 2

You can add multiple columns and adjust the amount of space they use. Here, I have two columns at a 60/30 percentage.

You can also embed content from Youtube, Twitter, Vimeo, Spotify, Bluesky and more:

Below: Separator block adds a line to separate content, good for a footnotes/works cited section!
